Fear of the Unknown

Fear itself is...well, scary. When faced with an unfamiliar challenge, our first instinct is to run away; a trait you can blame on our prehistoric ancestors. Fear means danger, avoiding danger means life. The only problem is, after a while, our brains begin to find a shortcut. Rather than avoiding the danger, we start to avoid the fear. As a business owner that can mean skipping any tough decisions that might result in failure - or success.

So how do we escape this programming? We can start by not running away. Fear can be a fantastic motivator; we often rely on an adrenaline rush to carry us through our challenges. But fear can only carry you so far. It’s what's on the other side of fear that will carry you towards success. So plant your feet and face the storm.

Faith lies at the heart of any risk. No matter how much market research you’ve conducted, how many contingencies you’ve got in place, and how much support you have from your family, partners, and friends, at some point you’ve got to just take the leap and believe in your heart that things will work out in your favour. Faith is what carries you through fear - there’s very little chance of making a balanced decision on any balanced matter when fear is your primary concern. Instead, let faith guide the way. Fear clouds minds, faith frees them.

Okay, you’ve taken the leap. What’s the next step? Don’t hit the ground just yet - it’s time to Fly! Embrace your challenges, celebrate your successes, and deal with your failures as they arise. I guarantee there will be plenty of each. So next time your fears surface, don’t back down! Just remember: fear is just the first step to flight.
